Type faster with //Magical

Step 1: Create an account

Once you've downloaded Magical, complete Signup by using Google OAuth. It takes less than 10 seconds and you get more features for signing up, like Automated Backups.

Step 2: Complete the tutorial

The onboarding tutorial only takes 1 minute to complete, but is definitely worth the little investment! Pro tip: if you ever want a refresher on onboarding, you can always revisit the tutorial here.

Step 3: Pin the app

To easily access Magical, you'll need to pin the app. Simply click on the 'puzzle' icon on the top right hand part of your screen, hover over the Magical app, and click the pin icon.

Step 4: Create a shortcut

Shortcuts are chunks of text that you can summon quickly. Shortcuts have 2 properties.

  1. Shortcut. This is what you will key-in to summon your shortcut in a text field or input box. We recommend picking something that you don't commonly type so that you don't pull up your shortcut accidentally. Example: !hours
  2. Shortcut text: This is the content of your shortcut; the "chunks of text" that you want to expand when you key in your shortcut. Example: 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Holidays are excluded

Pro tip: You can also highlight any chunk of text on the web and right-click to add the shortcut.

Step 5: Summon your shortcut

In a text field or input box (e.g., Gmail, LinkedIn, Zendesk, and 1000s more sites), you can summon your shortcut in 2 ways:

  1. Type // into the text field or input box to view a dropdown of all of your shortcuts (note, you will see all of your shortcuts and preview body of text). Simply search for the shortcut, select the shortcut, and hit enter to pull it up.
  2. Type in the shortcut directly into the text field or input box to summon the Snippet. As a continuation from the example in Step 3, when you type !hours, it will turn into "9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Holidays are excluded."

Magical works on 1000s of websites and web apps, including several email clients (e.g., Gmail, Outlook Web), project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Notion), CRMs (e.g., Salesforce), Applicant Tracking Systems (e.g., Lever, Greenhouse), and social media apps (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn),  chat tools (e.g., Whatsapp), and many more. Magical does not work on desktop apps at this time.

Step 6: Learn about macros

Magical comes with macros that enable you to be even more productive at work. Learn more about them here.
